Energy
The Energy sector was the largest contributor in 2023, emitting 20.64 MtCO₂e, which accounted for ~80% of the state’s total Gross GHG emissions (excluding LULUCF).
The Energy sector’s emission declined by 15% in 2020 compared to 2019 levels (17.09 MtCO₂e), and further rebounded to 20.64 MtCO₂e in 2023, marking a ~21% increase from 2020 levels. The trend could be reduced fuel usage during the COVID-19 period.
Among the various source categories within the energy sector, transport emissions were the highest, accounting for approximately 66% of the sector's total emissions. This was followed by residential energy, primarily due to the consumption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), which contributed around 15%, and industrial energy, driven by the use of Furnace Oil (FO)/ Low Sulfur Heavy Stock (LSHS), at about 9%.
