Industrial Processes and Product Use (IPPU)

The IPPU sector in Kerala contributed to 1.47 MtCO₂e emissions in 2023 accounting for ~6% of the Gross GHG Emissions (excluding LULUCF).

Chemical industry alone emitted 1.20 MtCO₂e, in 2023 accounting for 82% of the total IPPU sector emissions in the state and 5% of Kerala’s gross emissions.

The key emitting industrial processes within the chemical industry were ammonia production (~49%), carbon black production (~19%), and caprolactam production (~8%), which together accounted for the total IPPU emissions. In the mineral industry, cement production contributed approximately ~12% to the total IPPU emissions during the reference period.
